Merino

New Zealand merino is regarded as the finest, softest and purest merino in the world.
This is down to two factors, natural evolution and a pure and pristine growing environment.
Merino is nature’s intelligent fibre. It enables merino sheep to live comfortably through the snowy winters and scorching summers of New Zealand’s Southern Alps.  Unlike synthetics, merino has superb temperature regulating qualities thanks to the responsive microclimate it creates against the skin.

No matter what the season, activity or location, merino’s active breathability keeps your body temperature comfortably regulated.

Natural

Merino fabrics are both sustainable and renewable. Their use ensures a premium quality garment whilst maintaining the viability of New Zealand’s traditional alpine sheep stations.
There are approximately three merino sheep per hectare, they enjoy their space! Safeguarding this ethical low intensity farming ensures the protection of the wild alpine areas in which these sheep roam.

Performance

Merino performs so well thanks to its naturally complex structure.

HOT
When you are hot Merino can absorb and release moisture rapidly which prevents you from feeling damp. This process of evaporation keeps you dry and cool.

COLD
When it’s cold, the thousands of tiny pockets on each fibre trap air keeping you nice and warm. Merino is also exothermic when wet so if you happen to end up wet you won’t get cold.

ODOUR AND WRINKLE RESISTANT
Merino is naturally bacterial and odour resistant making it ideal for both travelling and active wear. It is also wrinkle free, due to the natural elasticity of the fibre.

OTHER BENEFITS
Merino is also static free, UV resistant and flame retardant.

Quality

Embers garments are made using 18.5 micron and 21 micron diameter fibres (a human hair is about 100 Micron) this is the reason why our merino feels so silky soft.

We use specially selected merino from the best growers in New Zealand.
First the Merino wool grows, high in the mountains on the back of a merino sheep. Each year they are sheared, their fleeces are sorted, graded, washed, spun, knitted and sewn into an Embers garment.
This process can’t be rushed; our fibre is grown not made.
We believe it’s worth the wait.
